Hello, my name is Lana Torizi.
About Me
I’m a retired English teacher who, after reading and editing papers for 30 years, started my own writing career at age 59! My husband and I sold our house in Phoenix and moved down to our family beach house in Rocky Point, Mexico. We also have a timeshare, so we can travel all over and see our family. Basically, I can write from anywhere, so we spend as much time as we can traveling.
I decided that there are so many things that I can talk about that I should probably start a blog.
First of all, I would like to write along with the rest of you and encourage you on your writing path because you don’t need to worry about being weird. In fact, that is what you need to be—don’t be ordinary. But really, who is? We are all weird in our own special way. And that’s good.
Second, living in Mexico has been a wonderful change for us, offering a chance to embrace a lifestyle that personally feels less rushed and more centered on community and family connections. The warmth and openness we've experienced from our neighbors and friends, who welcome us with open arms during gatherings, remind me of the close-knit community spirit I cherished in my own childhood. Despite the language barrier, the effort to communicate and connect has been a heartwarming journey. This environment has provided a valuable perspective that I wish my children could have also experienced firsthand.
Finally, I want to comment on aging. I have Alzheimer's in my family, and I want to do what I can to prevent myself from losing my memory as much as possible. So I intend on keeping my mind active. That’s why I want to write and try to read, and figure out things to do that are mentally stimulating. I still get caught up in movies and television a little too much, I admit.
I hope this blog inspires you to write or to explore new places.
